Shepard Fairey is one of the world’s leading street artists and designers, most well known for his print of Andre the Giant; one of the first images he ever used as a stencil. His work is heavily influenced by pop culture, politics, graffiti, business art, and soviet propaganda. The artist claims that the driving force behind his work is to get people to ‘question everything’. Fairey is well known as a social and political activist, donating heavily to charity and employing a large team of well-paid staff. He is also responsible for a number of Obama posters created through the democrat campaign in 2008. While the party at first tried to shy away from Fairey’s work, they later commissioned him to continue the series upon realising the popularity of the first print. While Fairey has exhibited extensively as an artist throughout the states, and further afield, his work extends into fashion and advertising, not to mention all the while still actively painting on streets around the world.
